Peruvian Prime Minister Walter Martos on Saturday morning received a significant donation of 250 mechanical ventilators from the Government of the United States, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office in Peru.

The donated batch of mechanical ventilators —which had been produced in the United States— are state-of-the-art, compact, portable, and will provide the South American country with greater flexibility in treating patients affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Within this framework, the Peruvian Cabinet chief thanked the U.S. Government for its donation.

"Thank you for this collaboration that is not only related to equipment, but also to the maintenance, installation, and training of our personnel for the corresponding use," he stated.

Likewise, the Prime Minister affirmed that Peru continues optimizing its hospital response, timely treatment, and insisting on the care standards "because we continue fighting the pandemic, which —although it is decreasing— has not yet ended."

Furthermore, he expressed wishes for the speedy recovery of President Donald Trump, who has been recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.

Held in Lima, the delivery ceremony also saw the presence of Ministers Pilar Mazzetti (Health) and Mario Lopez (Foreign Affairs).

As is known, the United States donated the first 250 ventilators to Peru last June. To date, the aid provided by the U.S. to the South American nation exceeds US$25 million.
