Foreign Minister Carlos Espá delivered to the Israeli Ambassador, Gali Dagan, a copy of a formal communication sent by the Peruvian government to the presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA)—currently held by the Argentine Republic—conveying Peru’s decision to adopt the working definition of antisemitism approved by the organization at its plenary session in Budapest on May 26, 2016.
In doing so, the government reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the fight against antisemitism and all forms of discrimination, hatred, and intolerance.
This decision by the Government of Peru reflects the State’s commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights and respect for human dignity.
Furthermore, it acknowledges the value of this definition as a guiding tool for identifying and combating manifestations of antisemitism, in alignment with the efforts of the international community.
In this regard, education is essential for preserving the memory of the Holocaust; it serves as a means to identify expressions and practices that undermine human dignity, while simultaneously promoting mutual respect, tolerance, freedom of worship, freedom of thought, and peaceful coexistence within society—for the benefit of present and future generations.
