Peru ready for debut at U-20 Volleyball Championship

Peru's U-20 national team gets ready to face counterpart Serbia on its Friday debut at the Women’s U-20 World Championship.

The sports event, which will be held in Puerto Rico on September 11-20, includes the participation of 16 teams. Peru belongs to group B, as do China, Serbia and Mexico.

The squad, coached by Natalia Malaga, traveled to the Dominican Republic, in order to adjust to the weather conditions.

"There is a very nice weather. We are precisely here [in the Dominican Republic] with the aim of  acclimatizing ourselves to what lies ahead for us in Puerto Rico [...]," Malaga indicated.

The Peruvian delegation is composed of Angela Leyva, Maguilaura Frias, Rosa Valiente, Coraima Gómez, Shiamara Almeida, Nair Canessa, Cristina Cuba, Yomira Villacorta, Dayana Rojas and Nicole Abreu.

Likewise, drafted athletes Diana de la Peña y Katherine Regalado will join the team after finishing their participation at the Japan 2015 Volleyball World Cup.

Peru will face Serbia on Friday at 18:30 (Peruvian time).
