The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) reported on Friday that it has received the resignation letter submitted by Transportation and Communications Minister Rafael Rey for health reasons.

"We recognize and appreciate the work carried out by the minister in service to the country, and we are confident that he will be able to make his valuable contribution to Peru from other positions," the PCM said on X.

Rey submitted his irrevocable resignation as State Minister in the Transportation and Communications sector "for health reasons that prevent me from continuing to perform the responsibilities inherent to the position with the dedication it requires."

In his letter, he expressed his deep gratitude to President Keiko Fujimori and Prime Minister Luis Galarreta for the trust placed in him and for the opportunity to serve the country in this high-level position.

"It has been an honor for me to work alongside you and with public servants, authorities, and technical teams of both the Ministry under my charge and colleagues and officials from other sectors," he stated.

He also expressed his willingness to facilitate an orderly and transparent transfer of the administration.

Rafael Rey had been serving as Minister since July 28, 2026.
