Peru: PSI achieves record irrigation infrastructure works execution

17:42 | Lima, Mar. 3.

Peru's State-run Subsectoral Irrigation Program (PSI) has reached a historical record in February 2020 —in terms of budget execution for irrigation infrastructure works (+591.2%) over the same month in 2019— thus exceeding the number of allocations registered in the same period between 2016 and 2020, the Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) highlighted on Tuesday.

Minagri indicated that the PSI —an agency attached to this sector— spent S/23.5 million (about US$6.82 million) last February, which meant a 591.2% expansion compared to the same month in 2019.

According to PSI Executive-Director Agripino Jimenez, between January and February of the current year the PSI has executed investments worth a total of S/24.9 million (about US$7.23 million) in order to benefit small and medium-sized producers with new irrigation infrastructure works, in addition to rehabilitation and emergency-related activities.

The official said that —in the first two months of this year— more than S/19.7 million (above US$5.72 million) from the budget was invested in reconstruction interventions through allocations.

Other S/3.2 million (about US$928,882) was spent in riverine defense under the Comprehensive Reconstruction Plan.
