Peru: Prosecutor requests banning former First Lady Heredia from leaving the country

The Prosecutor's Office on Monday requested the Judiciary to impose an 18-month travel ban on former First Lady Nadine Heredia (2011-2016) and 17 others investigated in the Southern Gas Pipeline case.

This request was made during the hearing held this morning by the Third Preparatory Investigation Court Specialized in Corruption Offenses Committed by Public Officials.

Initially, the hearing was scheduled for December 18, but Judge Jorge Chavez Tamariz ordered the rescheduling with the aim of guaranteeing the right to defense of those investigated.

In remarks to Lava Jato Special Case Prosecution Group membersformer Odebrecht representative in Peru Jorge Barata said he had met several times with former President Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) and his wife Nadine Heredia to discuss issues related to the Southern Gas Pipeline Project, IDL-Reporteros revealed.

According to the investigative journalism site, the former executive also revealed that he had twice met "exclusively" with the former First Lady to discuss the project.

She was more executive-minded in solving the problems faced by the Brazilian construction company regarding the Southern Gas Pipeline and offered to solve the inconveniences, Barata told prosecutors.

Heredia is investigated for the alleged crimes of collusion and others to the detriment of the State.
