The President of the Council of Ministers, Ernesto Alvarez, explained that the Emergency Decree establishing extraordinary measures for the asset and operational reorganization of state oil company Petroperu, does not imply its privatization or liquidation, but rather an intermediate and responsible solution to the insolvency situation.

In this regard, Alvarez Miranda explained that Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion) will be the entity in charge of conducting a technical, impartial, and comprehensive evaluation of Petroperú's various production units, in order to recommend the most appropriate actions for each of them.

“The premise is that Petroperu must remain a public company, but with efficient, solvent, and transparent management,” stated the head of the Cabinet, emphasizing that some units might require private investment under public-private partnership schemes, others could be liquidated, and still others strengthened within the state sector.

Regarding the issue of ensuring fuel supply in regions where Petroperu operates and there are no private companies, Ernesto Alvarez explained that the intention is to maintain the public services provided by Petroperu, guarantee the legitimate rights of workers, who will not be affected in any way, and at the same time ensure that the payment chain is not disrupted.

The head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) also reported that public resources have been allocated for a potential process of staff reduction and retraining, which will be defined exclusively based on technical criteria, guaranteeing labor rights and avoiding arbitrary political decisions.

In that regard, Ernesto Alvarez supported the statements of the Minister of Economy, Denisse Miralles, who emphasized that more than half of the current expenditures go not to salaries, but to privileges for high-ranking officials.

He also addressed the acts of violence that occurred in the province of Pataz, La Libertad region, specifying that it was a confrontation between groups linked to illegal mining.

In this regard, the head of PCM confirmed that the toll was three dead and two detained, and stated that law enforcement acted immediately to control the situation and initiate the corresponding investigations.

Finally, Alvarez reaffirmed the Executive's commitment to combating illegal mining and strengthening the State's presence in the affected areas, stressing that it is a structural problem that has persisted for decades and requires a comprehensive and sustained intervention.
