Peruvian Prime Minister Anibal Torres on Monday morning opened the second regular session of the National Council for Citizen Security (Conasec) in Trujillo, the capital of La Libertad region in northern Peru.

During the activity, Mr. Torres called for promoting citizen participation and for strengthening the work of citizen security committees, in a bid to better confront the crime problem.

By doing so, he said, the population will receive strong and efficient support from authorities in reducing citizen insecurity.

Moreover, the Cabinet chief stressed the need to develop joint efforts between authorities and the general public.

Conasec is responsible for formulating, conducting, and evaluating policies, plans, and activities on public safety at the national level.

It is headed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), and the Technical Secretariat is managed by the Ministry of Interior (Mininter), through the General Directorate of Public Safety.
