The creation of Southern Peru's La Yarada-Los Palos district is an "irreversible act," President Ollanta Humala affirmed on Monday.
Likewise, Peru’s top official indicated that any remarks made on the matter by a neighboring country will be answered through the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"La Yarada-Los Palos district creation is an irreversible act and any comments [concerning the matter] made by a neighbor country will be channeled through the Chancellery," he stressed.
At the same time, the President did not consider necessary sending a protest note to the Chilean Government with regard to Defense Minister Jose Antonio Gomez' recent statements criticizing the said district creation.
"I don't think it [a protest note] is necessary. Any answer demanded by the Peruvian Government will be addressed through the corresponding channels, as is the Chancellery," he reiterated.
It must be noted the Peruvian Government enacted the creation of La Yarada-Los Palos district in Southern Tacna region last November.
According to Peru’s Executive Power, this district is the outcome of exercising sovereignty, established in accordance with the national laws and border treaties.
It is a political tool that will enable its inhabitants to gain access to better living conditions by taking advantage of new chances to develop opportunities for well-being, better education and health services, among others.
