Peru President: "We'll be relentless against drug-funded terrorism"

10:39 | Lima, Jun. 8.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Friday said his Government will be relentless against drug-funded terrorism, reiterating his rejection and condemnation of the attack that recently killed four police officers in the Valley of the Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro rivers (VRAEM).

The Head of State reaffirmed that every possible effort will be made to punish the perpetrators of this assault.

"The area is known to have drug traffickers linked to terrorism remnants, who we are going to combat quite responsibly and firmly. We'll be relentless in this fight," he pointed out.

"I told the Interior minister to get to the area immediately after I was fully aware of the situation. And he is already there to conduct a thorough investigation, identify the timeline of the attack, trigger a prompt reaction from the police and Armed Forces in the area, carry out an operation, and pursue the responsible individuals," he expressed.

Likewise, the statesman affirmed the VRAEM area requires comprehensive efforts and development projects. "And we'll do so because our aim is to eradicate drug trafficking from the region."

Remarks were made at an event that marked the expansion of 100 Helpline —a free-of-charge service that receives women's complaints.
