11:30 | Lima, Nov. 8.

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday reported that he had held a phone conversation with Brazilian President-elect, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, to whom he reiterated congratulations on his electoral victory.

"This morning I spoke with the President-elect of Brazil, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, to whom I reiterated my congratulations and expressed my good wishes for his purpose of strengthening democracy, the economy, social inclusion, and the sustainable development of his country," Mr. Castillo indicated on his official Twitter account.

Likewise, the Head of State specified that he had expressed "Peru's enthusiasm and will to continue and deepen bilateral relations during his next government, as befits two nations that face common challenges of growth, human development, environment, and security."

"As part of this conversation, I appreciate the invitation you personally extended for me to attend the swearing-in ceremony," he concluded.

Lula da Silva

The 77-year-old Workers' Party (PT) leader had already governed the South American Giant between 2003 and 2010.

Lula —as he is commonly known— will once again become Brazil's President as of January 1, 2023, for the following four years.
