Peruvian President Dina Boluarte on Monday signed the High Seas Treaty (BBNJ). The document aims to protect marine biodiversity and ensure the sustainable use of resources in international waters.

Via social media, the Presidential Office clarified that Peru signed this agreement as a non-party State to UNCLOS, reaffirming its commitment to ocean conservation without affecting its 200-mile maritime jurisdiction, as established by our Constitution.

Additionally, an interpretative declaration was presented to make it clear that this signing does not change our position as a non-party State to UNCLOS.

Earlier today, the Head of State reaffirmed her commitment to ocean sustainability and presented 19 new voluntary commitments to protect this valuable resource.

This took place within the framework of the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in the city of Nice, France.

"Our country is deeply connected to the sea, and we recognize its strategic importance for sustainable development," she emphasized.
