Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti on Friday met with members of the Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), who arrived in Lima earlier this week.

The meeting lasted about 40 minutes at the Government Palace, according to TVPerú Noticias.

Afterwards, the Head of State met with regional governors.

The day before, the head of the OAS Electoral Observation Mission Ruben Ramirez Lezcano announced that the delegation would hold meetings with high-ranking authorities from the Executive and Legislative Branches, as well as from electoral bodies, political parties, and civil society.

The official also explained that this is a preliminary electoral observation mission and that it will remain in the country until next Saturday.

Ramirez Lezcano —who had served as Paraguay's Foreign Affairs minister— said that their presence will enable the OAS delegation to know and understand "all the points of view of civil society."

Earlier this the week, Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry reported that the OAS had accepted the nation's invitation to deploy an Electoral Observation Mission.

As is known, Peru will hold General Elections on April 11, 2021.
