on Sunday categorically rejected the alleged statements that aspiring cooperating witness Karelim Lopez would have made, attributing illicit acts to him.
In a televised address to the nation, the Head of State asked citizens to defend democracy and the Prosecutor's Office to continue with the investigation to provide objective explanations as soon as possible, which are consistent with justice.
"The people need to know the truth," Mr. Castillo expressed.
"If these acts are the subject of a prosecutorial investigation, how is it possible that they are publicly debated in the media? It shows that the Prosecutor's Office would be part of a plot to destabilize the government," he emphasized.
The top official said there is a minority sector which will never accept his administration, adding that it seeks to impeach and remove him from office so as not to solve the major problems faced by the nation.
"The Peruvian people and the international community are aware of the anti-democratic and coup-mongering will of this minority sector," he added.
Mr. Castillo called on Peruvians to remain vigilant to "defend democracy and the governability of a government that is born from the people."
Last Saturday, journalistic versions mentioned that, as an aspiring cooperating witness, citizen Karelim Lopez would have made statements, involving the President, to the Prosecutor's Office.
