The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday presented his irrevocable resignation from Peru Libre political party.

Within this framework, Mr. Castillo affirmed that he is respectful of that political group and the guidelines established in the 2021 electoral campaign.

Via Twitter, he stressed that such a decision comes given his responsibility as President of 33 million Peruvians.

In a second tweet, the top official reaffirmed his commitment to continue working and promoting the great changes of the Bicentennial in a democratic country —along with all Peruvian citizens.

Similarly, the Head of State attached an image of the letter submitted to the National Elections Board (JNE) on his resignation from Peru Libre.

Mr. Castillo also requested that he be disaffiliated from said political organization, under the provisions of Article 2, Paragraph 20 of the Political Constitution —in accordance with Article 18-A of Law No. 28094 (Political Organizations Law).
