The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, on Tuesday afternoon presented the Multisectoral Foreign Trade Policy Through 2040.

During a ceremony held at the Lima-based Government Palace, the Head of State said this legal instrument will make it possible to consolidate Peru's foreign trade.

The top official added that this multisectoral policy will enable Peru to better harness its potential as a country.

"This plan, without a doubt, is a legacy that we will leave for the future; it is aimed at consolidating our foreign trade," he pointed out.

The President noted that Peru will be able to responsibly develop the advantages and potential of each of its regions.

"The person speaking to you is someone firmly convinced of the potential we have in each of our regions—from north to south, from east to center. We possess a potential that we have not yet managed to make use of responsibly or in the best possible way," he stated.

At another point, the top official emphasized that plans and policies—such as those being presented today—serve as the ideal means to understand what must be done and which tools should be used to achieve the country's objectives.

"Governments must help strengthen our State and ensure that our companies consolidate their presence abroad, not only that—we must go much further," he said.

Government legacy

The President noted the multisectoral foreign trade policy will constitute a legacy and a key tool of his administration, adding that it has been developed over time by previous governments through sectoral leaders—namely, the State ministers.

"I have always said that governments, beyond positions taken here or there, must leave something for the (Peruvian) State. And this, without a doubt, is a powerful tool for our State," he asserted.

The top official mentioned that the multisectoral policy presented is the first such tool to be introduced during his administration.

"I thought it would be the National Citizen Security Plan, but the national multisectoral foreign trade policy came first, and that is good," he expressed.

The Head of State stressed that, thanks to this type of policy, Peru will have greater resources, which will make it possible to finance a National Citizen Security Plan.

"Therefore, everything is interconnected. I have always said that things do not happen by chance," he pointed out.

At the ceremony presenting the Multisectoral Foreign Trade Policy by 2040, attendees included Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister, Teresa Mera, along with the National Superintendence of Tax Administration (SUNAT) chief, and diplomatic corps members accredited in Peru, among others.
