The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, took part in the presentation in Cusco of the roadmap for the national curriculum update process with a territorial approach.
The presentation was organized by the Ministry of Education (Minedu), with the participation of Cusco's Regional Center for Specialized Educational Resources.
In addition to the Head of State, the event was attended by Cusco Region Governor Werner Salcedo, as well as Minedu's Deputy Pedagogical Management Minister Gerber Perez.
On the purpose of this event, Balcazar stressed that "this curriculum update must not be allowed to be undermined; rather, it should be strengthened and provided with as much funding as possible so that this project can move forward across the country."
The top official stated that, in order to improve education, Peruvian institutions must be strengthened.
In that regard, he emphasized that his administration is "placing strong emphasis on Beca 18 (scholarship grants program), which until now has been poorly directed."
"We are laying the groundwork in government before I leave. The aim is for the incoming administration to already be committed to ensuring there is no turning back on establishing a first processing plant to industrialize copper," he said regarding Peru's raw materials.
As part of the measures taken in the health sector, he recalled the inauguration of Antonio Lorena Hospital in Cusco and the recent modernization of Dos de Mayo National Hospital in Lima.
The president also noted that the first surgical procedure will soon be carried out at the Cusco hospital.
Pope Leo XIV's arrival
Following the president's meeting with Pope Leo XIV, it was announced that the Supreme Pontiff’s visit to Peru would last between eight and 10 days.
Among the cities under consideration are Lima, Chiclayo, Piura, Cusco, and Pucallpa.
In this regard, the Head of State said His Holiness will arrive in the country during the first half of November.
The top official also said he hopes "Cusco will welcome him with open arms."
"We told him there, at the Vatican, that we already have a helicopter permanently assigned in Cusco to facilitate his transportation," he added.
