Peruvian President Ollanta Humala said the new salary scale aimed at Diplomatic Service staff recognizes their work in the field of foreign policy management.
“It was imperative to meet the institution’s demands, we had to prioritize it and I am prioritizing it, there is a political willingness to grant recognition by adjusting their salary scale up,” he said.
The Peruvian leader signed a supreme decree approving the Diplomatic Service New Salary Scale as part of the upgrade process the Chancellery is undergoing. Accompanying the Head of State was Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Maria Sanchez.
According to Mr. Humala, the regulation also proposes a rise in the annual severance payment —CTS.
The Head of State stressed the importance of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Diplomatic Service to manage the country’s foreign policy and place Peru at different platforms and major forums around the world.
He also noted the organization of large-scale events in the country such as the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, the Pacific Alliance meetings, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, and the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP20), held in 2014.
Moreover, Mr. Humala underlined the favorable ruling on the maritime border dispute with Chile at the International Court of Justice at The Hague as one of the Chancellery’s achievements.
