took part in a meeting with elected authorities for regional and local governments for the 2023-2026 period "Rebuilding Together."
The
meeting was held at Lima Convention Center located in the Peruvian capital's San Borja district.
During his speech, the Head of State indicated that, as authorities at every level of government reach agreements, an end could be put to problems such as citizen insecurity.
"Dear mayors and mayoresses, I have come not only to greet you but to say that this is an open-door government, and I am going to commit not only to what Reconstruction with Changes does, but so that citizens are served nationwide (...)," Mr. Castillo expressed.
Likewise, the Head of State affirmed it is necessary to put an end to many bureaucratic rules that prevent authorities from advancing.
Thus, the top official told them that they will always "find stones on the way," but that the only solution to overcome obstacles is by working transparently.
"Besides reiterating that we have not come (to power) to rob the country, (we say that) we are not corrupt; we are people of work and consensus," he added.
Moreover, Mr. Castillo urged them to work in a united and consensual manner to save the country, regardless of the political party for which they had been elected.
"What we have to do is to put these offenses, these useless confrontations, aside. The campaign is over, you have to call contenders because there are good proposals on the other side, and so that there is a critical opposition, not like what we face as a central government, where presidential impeachments, accusations, and collection of signatures are seen," he expressed.
At the event, the President held a meeting with more than 500 elected authorities for regional and local governments for the 2023-2026 period.
