Peru President leads Extraordinary Council of Ministers Session
10:21
| Lima, Sep. 27.
Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra currently leads an extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers at the Government Palace in Lima.
This meeting —the
second one this week
— takes place after
Congress' Constitution Commission on Thursday morning decided to shelve the early general elections bill submitted by the Executive Branch to Parliament last July
.
Later that day,
Prime Minister Salvador del Solar affirmed that President Vizcarra's administration will not stay with the arms crossed
.
"
We are going to act with the authority and strength the Constitution and laws grant us, and we are going to act with the responsibility this Parliament has not been able to show (...)
," the high-ranking official told reporters from the
Presidency of the Council of Ministers' headquarters
.
As is known,
President Vizcarra's administration had initially proposed calling for the general elections by 2020, one year sooner than initially expected, so that Peruvians would choose a new President, Vice-Presidents, and Congress members
