The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday led a new session of the Council of Ministers at the Executive Branch headquarters in Lima.

According to the Government Palace Press Secretariat, the meeting started at 8:50 a.m. (local time).

The Head of State was joined by Prime Minister Anibal Torres and other Cabinet members.

Last Tuesday, the top official called on the branches of the Peruvian State to put aside their differences, look at the country —which seeks justice— and meet its most urgent needs.

"Let us no longer turn our backs on the homeland, which demands that its needs be met," he said.

"The pandemic has exposed the precariousness of the health system. Over 230,000 compatriots are no longer with us. This would not have happened if previous governments had invested in the primary care level and if they had declared (the right to) health as a constitutional right," the dignitary added.

Remarks were made during an event held at the presidential palace in Lima, in which he received discharged members of the Armed Forces who confronted terrorism between the 1980s and 2000s.
