The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, on Tuesday led the ceremony for the 201st anniversary of the Battle of Ayacucho and Peru's Army Day.

This event was held at the Army Headquarters in Lima's San Borja district.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from the branches of government, including Defense Minister Cesar Diaz Peche; Army Commander General Cesar Briceño Valdivia; along with senior officials from the Armed Forces and Peruvian National Police.

The Battle of Ayacucho took place 201 years ago, on December 9, 1824, in Pampa de Quinua, Ayacucho region.

On that day, the United Liberating Army of Peru, led by Antonio Jose de Sucre, faced the royalist troops, achieving a victory that sealed the country's and South America’s emancipation.
