At the request of the President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, a meeting was held on Wednesday with U.S. officials who are experts in security matters. The purpose of this session was to receive input and suggestions for the development of a new citizen security plan.

The U.S. delegation is made up of six officials and headed by Jose A. Perez, Director of Operations at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Its members have extensive technical and law enforcement experience, coming from the FBI, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and various U.S. state police programs.

"There has been a state malfunction, with factors that have brought us to this critical situation, such as poor border control, limited technological resources, and an inefficient regulatory framework. This is what we want to change through the meetings we will hold," the President indicated during the working session at the Government Palace in Lima.

This is the first of several consultative meetings to be held in December between the U.S. interagency delegation and the Executive Branch. The latter is represented by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior (Mininter), Defense (Mindef), and the Peruvian National Police (PNP).

"Our goal is to establish a robust security plan that provides concrete actions to be implemented, is easy for the relevant authorities to oversee, and serves as a roadmap for the next government. We are firmly committed to reducing crime," he expressed.

This high-level visit complements the daily cooperation conducted between U.S. and Peruvian authorities.

It reflects the long-standing partnership between our two countries in security cooperation as well.

The U.S. officials stated that they are fully willing to provide their knowledge and experience so that it can be adapted to the Peruvian context in the shortest time possible.

Also participating in the meeting were Prime Minister Ernesto Alvarez; Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela; Defense Minister Cesar Diaz; Interior Minister Vicente Tiburcio; Peruvian National Police (PNP) General Commander Oscar Arriola; and Congress' Special Multilateral Commission on Citizen Security Chairman Alfredo Azurin.
