The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, held a meeting with neighborhood leaders from Lima and Callao to coordinate actions aimed at closing sanitation gaps in the most vulnerable areas of the capital and the main port.

During the meeting, it was agreed to set up technical roundtables to identify and overcome the obstacles hindering water and sewage project progress.

These roundtables aim to speed up new connections and benefit a greater number of families.

It was also confirmed that free water supply via tanker trucks will continue for areas that still lack basic services.

Accordingly, the distribution of potable water will resume on November 24, thanks to the budget allocated for this purpose.

In this regard, the Head of State emphasized that his government is implementing austerity measures to ensure the necessary resources to address the country’s urgent priorities, including access to potable water and sewage services.

"We are implementing emergency measures and providing swift solutions. In this short time, we are addressing the main problems inherited from a State that, for many years, failed to fulfill its role," Jeri emphasized.

"Today, it is our turn to do what many previous administrations did not, and this represents an extraordinary opportunity to correct structural issues and put solutions on track," he added.

The meeting was also attended by Housing, Construction, and Sanitation Minister Wilder Sifuentes.

The neighborhood leaders who participated in the gathering represented Pachacamac, Villa Maria del Triunfo, Comas, Chorrillos, San Juan de Lurigancho, Ancon, Lurigancho-Chosica, and Cieneguilla districts.

The event took place at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
