The
on Wednesday morning participated in the inspection of the start of commissioning tests on Stage 1A of Lima Metro Line 2.
In remarks to reporters, the top official stated that Lima Metro Line 2 constitutes a medium-term solution "to the chaotic transportation problem that we face in the capital."
"This (Metro Line 2) will be of great help, but as the capital of Peru, we must continue to make progress in generating a comprehensive solution, so that the urban transportation (issue) in the capital is solved as it should have been," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.
"But it is never too late; we are going to take the first step," she added.
Similarly, the President specified that each subway car has the capacity to carry 200 people, who will be able to finish the 45-minute journey —once the project is completed— between Lima's eastern Ate district and Callao region (west of Lima), which currently takes between two and three hours.
"This is good for Lima and for Peru; we have to think about great things like this so that the country can develop more efficiently," she indicated.
Lima Metro Line 2's first phase comprises five stations. They are: Mercado Santa Anita, Hermilio Valdizán, Colectora Industrial, Óvalo Santa Anita, and Evitamiento.
Once it is put into operation, users will be able to travel from the first station to the second one in merely 15 minutes —as opposed to the 50 minutes it currently takes via other public transportation means.
