"
Climate change is a reality in Peru's most remote areas, as well as the
world's. We are experiencing it, as it is affecting the development of human activities," the top official expressed.
Likewise, he indicated the
farming sector is vulnerable to
climate change, adding temperature variations can cause stronger and more frequent events, such as Coastal El Niño phenomenon, rains or droughts.
"If the agriculture (sector) is not conscious about
climate change, and it does not prepare to adequately face it, then we will have problems," he warned.
"Well-informed farmers can continue producing and maintaining productivity (...)," President Vizcarra added.
Furthermore, the Head of State reaffirmed his administration's support for the
farming sector, adding millions of Peruvians rely on this
activity, since they feed themselves with the products harvested in diverse areas of the Inca country.
"We promote
agro-exports, but let's not forget the small-scale farmers from High-Andean areas who had been left behind (…)," he underscored.
On the occasion, the top official was joined by Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Gustavo Mostajo.
President Vizcarra congratulated Mostajo's portfolio and the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA) for having implemented this initiative.
