18:10 | Chancay (Lima region), May. 26.

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and Transport and Communications Minister Jose Gallardo Ku inaugurated construction works of the new terminal of solid and liquid bulks and roll-on/roll-off cargo, the first stage of a modern multipurpose port and logistics complex in Chancay Port 80km to the north of Lima.

Minister Gallardo said the private investment project is intended to reduce Peru's severe deficit in port and logistics infrastructure.

The new terminal will complement the services of Callao Port, resulting in a HUB port area, not only for the country, but for the entire Southern Pacific coast.

“The work involves private sector’s efforts to enhance competitiveness of the National Port System, and complements connectivity works of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) in the central-north area," the government official stated.

“It is part of the productive diversification policy implemented by the Government to foster economic development as well as trade and industry growth in favor of Peruvians,” he continued.

Gallardo Ku informed the State has made significant investments to upgrade port terminals such as Paita, Matarani and Callao.

Furthermore, he stressed this year’s inauguration of the first stage of construction works of the New Yurimaguas Port Terminal that, along with Chancay Port, will enable the country to step up to another level of competitiveness.

The first stage of the terminal of solid and liquid bulks and roll-on/roll-off cargo —including a port operation zone, an entrance complex, and a deep tunnel— will entail a US$460 million investment and commence operation in the first quarter of 2019.
