Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday led the ceremony that marked the 138th Anniversary of the Battle of Arica and renewed the Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag.

The event took place at Lima's Bolognesi Square, in the presence of Defense Minister Jose Huerta Torres and Armed Forces high-ranking officers.

As part of the ceremony, the great-granddaughter of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi, Ana Maria Bolognesi Loret de Mola, was granted the Military Order Francisco Bolognesi in the Grade of Cross.

The event was attended by Armed Forces Joint Command Chief Jose Paredes Lora, Commander General Cesar Astudillo Salcedo (Army), Gonzalo Rios Polastri (Navy), and Javier Ramirez Guillen (Air Force), as well as other authorities of the three branches of the State.

The official act is held every June 7th and serves as means to commemorate national soldiers, who fought and died defending their homeland, as well as national integrity during the War of the Pacific (1789-1883).
