The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, arrived in southern Arequipa region on Friday morning to inspect the areas affected by the reported landslides.

On her seventh working trip, the Head of State will inspect the zones of Atico and Ocoña.

The top official will be accompanied by Defense Minister Rafael Belaunde.

It is worth noting that the Government, through the Defense Ministry, ordered the implementation of a humanitarian air bridge, operated by the Southern Operational Command.

The air bridge will assist and evacuate people stranded at various points along the Southern Pan-American Highway between Atico and Ocoña.

"We will be in Atico and Ocoña. The Defense Minister is already there, and an air bridge has been established to help people with their transportation," she told TV Peru.

The President said that Armed Forces personnel were deployed from the moment the emergency occurred.

The Head of State also indicated that, in addition to an air bridge, a maritime bridge will be established to help people, as well as to facilitate the transportation of materials and provisions.

An air bridge is being operated in Ocoña to allow the more than 300 people stranded there to leave the area.

Companies providing transportation services in the area suspended ticket sales to Lima and Ica last Monday due to problems reported on the Southern Pan-American Highway along the Atico-Ocoña stretch.
