The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, expressed her deep concern following the latest reports on Pope Leo XIV's health.

Within this framework, the Head of State called on Peruvian citizens to join in a large prayer chain for his swift recovery.

"Peruvians received the news about the health of our beloved Pope Leo XIV with profound sadness. We ask God to watch over him, give him strength, and allow us to see him recover soon," Fujimori stated via social media Tuesday evening.

"Today, more than ever, let us unite our faith in a great prayer chain. May Our Lord of Miracles hear our prayers and accompany him during this difficult time," she added.

The top official highlighted the spiritual connection and affection for the pontiff, noting that he maintains close ties with the country.

"Holy Father, this land, which is also your home, embraces you with immense affection," Fujimori underscored.

"Today, it is our turn to accompany you with our prayers, just as you have accompanied us with yours so many times," she concluded.

Pope Leo XIV underwent surgery at Gemelli Hospital, during which doctors removed the lower lobe of his right lung, according to the Holy See Press Office.

As is known, Robert Prevost was born in the United States but also holds Peruvian nationality.
