The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday handed over 30 new and equipped ambulances to the Ministry of Health (Minsa), which will be made available to various hospitals and medical centers in order to strengthen the primary care level and emergency services against COVID-19.

The ambulances will total 95, with their respective sets of spare parts to be delivered progressively —within the framework of a donation made by the Japanese Government.

Until July 14, 70 ambulances had entered the national territory —of which 30 were delivered today, 40 are in the customs clearance process, and 25 will arrive on July 26.

The vehicles correspond to a donation of approximately US$8.3 million made by Japan to Peru, after an exchange of notes between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Asian country in 2020 —within the framework of the Economic and Social Development Program for the Republic of Peru, which seeks to provide health support.

The ceremony took place at the Government Palace's Courtyard of Honor.
