The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo urged young people to renew politics to create a transparent management at the service of the people.

"It is necessary to recognize the importance of the spaces implemented by the State in order to promote youth participation in public policies," he stated.

"We seek to recognize young people as necessary actors in all processes of peace, development, and social progress," the Head of State added.

Remarks were made on Monday at the First Meeting of Young People of the Americas: Peru 2022, an event that brought together young people from Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Colombia, among others.

The dignitary highlighted the main theme proposed by Peru for the 52nd Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), noting that the topic is of particular importance due to the multiple crises afflicting Peru and the world.

"Together against Inequality and Discrimination is the theme that Peru has proposed for the OAS General Assembly. It assumes greater significance in the current context of multiple crises. I am sure that it will allow us to rebuild our societies in the new normal era," he remarked.

The top official said that around 29% of the national population in Peru are young people, noting that his Government is committed to guaranteeing the full exercise of their rights to education, health, decent jobs, security, and the opportunity to help them grow and develop their talents.

"The great Peruvian intellectual Jose Carlos Mariategui used to say that the youth are not the hope of tomorrow, they are the action of today. We have internalized that precept in this Government of the people that I represent. Meanwhile, the unity and progress of the Americas lies in the youth," he pointed out.

Finally, Mr. Castillo underscored that San Marcos University has provided a permanent platform of debate for political, social science, literature, and cultural personalities.
