The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday thanked the U.S. for the donation of 12 water pumps made by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to Peru's Agrarian Development and Irrigation Ministry with the aim of mitigating the impact of floods in various regions of the country.

"On behalf of the Peruvian Government and people, I thank USAID and the Government of the United States of America for this important gesture that reaffirms and further strengthens the ties of friendship, brotherhood, and cooperation that unite our countries," Mrs. Boluarte expressed during a ceremony held at the Government Palace in Lima.

The Head of State underscored that Peru and the United States share fundamental principles, such as respect, as well as strengthening of democracy and the rule of law, plus a commitment to dialogue, multilateralism, and full respect for human rights.

"We will continue working tirelessly under those guiding principles to meet the enormous challenges that lie ahead," she affirmed.

The President said Peruvian citizens had faced successive crises in recent times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and current heavy rains, which had hit the most vulnerable ones.

Mrs. Boluarte reminded attendees that, in addition to deploying all material and human capacities from the Peruvian State, last Friday the "Con Punche Perú Solidario" crusade was launched to summon support from the private sector, international cooperation, and civil society.

Water pumps to be distributed immediately

Regarding the USAID donation, the Head of State reported that water pumps —which are added to the machinery and humanitarian aid received from the private sector and citizens— will be immediately distributed to those regions that need it most, thus providing relief to the brothers and sisters from northern Peru.

The top official sent a message of hope to all Peruvians affected by landslides and floods. She also guaranteed them that "no one will be left behind."

United States Ambassador Lisa Kenna participated in the ceremony as well.

"As always, Peru can count on the United States; we are partners and friends," she expressed.
