President Dina Boluarte on Thursday highlighted the actions carried out by the Peruvian National Police (PNP) and the Government throughout 2024 to combat crime, pointing out that these results "encourage us to go on and remain on that path."

During the inauguration of the Fourth Ordinary Session of the National Citizen Security Council (Conasec) in Tarapoto, the top official said that "we have dealt accurate blows to crime."

"Protecting the life and integrity of our brothers is one of our priorities," she stated.

For this reason, Mrs. Boluarte said she maintains "firm and intact the purpose of providing our compatriots with the peace they deserve and never ceasing the fight against crime and delinquency."

Between January and December 2024, the Peruvian National Police "has carried out more than one million operations in which it arrested 255,000 Peruvians and 15,000 foreigners, as well as dismantled 229 criminal organizations and 12,300 gangs."

"These are results that encourage us to continue and remain on this path, always serving our population from the heart," she expressed.

Mrs. Boluarte pointed out that the Conasec meeting inaugurated by her today, "has a fundamental role in the objective of strengthening our actions and strategies against crime."

Efforts made

Within this framework, the president underscored that the government has made efforts to strengthen actions in favor of citizen security, such as the law that creates the National Specialized System for Criminal Flagrancy.

Likewise, she mentioned the granting of S/25 million (about US$6.69 million) to equip the Peruvian National Police Special Response Group against Crime, the delivery of resources for the procurement of vehicles, as well as the construction of police stations and crime labs.

In this context, an emergency budget was also allocated for the procurement of patrol cars, weapons, and logistics for the police institution, she concluded.
