Peru: President Boluarte expresses condolences to Luis Giampietri's family

President Dina Boluarte has expressed condolences to the family of former Vice-President Luis Alejandro Giampietri Rojas, who passed away at age 82 on Wednesday.

"Given the passing of retired Vice Admiral Luis Giampietri Rojas, the President of the Republic expresses condolences to his family and friends, and hopes that they find calm in these moments of sorrow," the Presidential Office posted on social media channels last night.


Biography

Giampietri was born on December 31, 1940, in Bellavista, Callao region, Peru.

He completed qualification studies and held various public positions during his 40-year-long service in the Navy.

In 2006, Giampietri was nominated as the APRA party candidate for Vice-President, being elected along with the group's leader, Alan Garcia, who became President of the Republic for the second time.

Similarly, Giampietri was elected Congressman in the same five-year period. 

During that time, he was commissioned to chair the extraordinary high-level commission in charge of organizing the 2008 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Peru.
