The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday announced the convening of the National Citizen Security Council in the coming days with the aim of adopting urgent, concrete, and drastic measures against common and organized crime.

Within this framework, the Head of State indicated that her administration will not allow crime to frighten the population, also knowing that insecurity is one of the country's major challenges —ahead of corruption, access to health and education, employment, plus economic recovery.

"I announce that, through the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, we will convene the National Citizen Security Council in the coming days in order to contribute, as well as to adopt urgent, concrete, and drastic actions against common crime and organized crime across the national territory," she expressed.

The top official indicated that her administration relies on a work plan in this regard "to be put under consideration and executed promptly."

"The fight against citizen insecurity cannot be addressed in an isolated manner, but rather requires articulated work by the different sectors of the Executive (Branch), regional and local governments, the Public Ministry, the Judiciary, as well as the participation of civil society and citizenry," she indicated.

Incineration

The President herself participated in the process of supervising drug incineration.

At this event, the Head of State was joined by Ministers Vicente Romero (Interior) and Jose Tello (Justice-Human Rights), along with authorities from the National Police of Peru, Judicial Branch, and Public Ministry.

During her speech, the official indicated that her administration is prepared to face major scourges such as drug trafficking and crime in order to protect the health, lives, and integrity of all Peruvians.

"For this reason, on the first day of Government, we said that we would be inflexible in this fight. This is the first drug destruction process of 2023, thanks to efficient and professional work by the police and a political decision from the highest level. Today, we incinerate more than 14 tons of drugs," she indicated.

President Boluarte congratulated the police for their deployment and fight against drug trafficking. Similarly, she highlighted the coordination effort carried out with the Public Ministry, Judiciary, and other institutions.

"Let's continue working together, all of us, to build a fairer and safer country, a developed and sustainable country; (we say) yes to life and no to drugs," she added.

Said event was held at the National Police's Directorate of Special Operations (Diroes) headquarters in Lima's Ate district.
