The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, held a coordination meeting with Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP) representatives to discuss his upcoming trip to the Holy See and Pope Leo XIV's visit scheduled for November.

"During the meeting, discussions focused on the key issues that the president will address during his audience with Pope Leo XIV, aimed at (boosting) the country's social well-being," the Presidential Office reported on social media.

Joint preparations were also coordinated for the historic visit that Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to make to Peru in November, an event expected to bring a message of peace, unity, and hope to Peruvian families nationwide.

The Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP) reported that the meeting was led by Monsignor Carlos Garcia, Chairman of the institution and Bishop of Lurin, who received the Head of State on behalf of the Catholic Church in Peru.

The CEP said the gathering included discussions on the significance of the Holy Father's presence for Peruvians and the importance of promoting joint efforts in support of unity, hope, and the common good.

Likewise, the session addressed the Peruvian Church's role through its pastoral, educational, and social work in service of the country's most vulnerable communities.

"The meeting was also held in the context of President Balcazar's upcoming official trip to Rome on June 18, within the framework of relations between the Peruvian State and the Holy See, as well as preparations related to the apostolic visit," the CEP noted.

The Head of State was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Pareja and Cabinet Chief Luis Enrique Arroyo on this occasion.

Representing the Peruvian Episcopal Conference were Monsignor Jorge Izaguirre, Bishop of Chosica and First Vice Chairman of the CEP; Monsignor Luis Barrera, Bishop of Callao and Second Vice Chairman; Monsignor Marco Cortez, Bishop of Tacna and Moquegua; Monsignor Francisco Lalupu, Auxiliary Bishop of Trujillo and Chairman of the CEP's Economic Affairs Council; and Monsignor Guillermo Inca, Acting Secretary-General of the CEP.
