on Wednesday announced a support program for high-performance athletes aimed at ensuring their good performance at the upcoming Lima 2027 Pan American Games and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
"Now it is our turn to prepare for the upcoming Pan American Games and Olympic Games. Stefano is now the first member of the Lima 2027 - Los Angeles 2028 Program, which will enable our high-performance athletes to prepare properly for these events," she stated.
The Head of State emphasized that, thanks to
Peschiera and his bronze medal in sailing, the Peruvian flag flew at
Paris 2024.
"Stefano, in every wave you faced, in every risk you went through, you carried the heart of all of Peru; that is why today I recognize your effort to follow the path that your grandfather paved for you; besides, I want to highlight the Olympic diplomas earned by other athletes. A round of applause for them as well, and for everyone who participated in this competition," she underlined.
Furthermore, the top official expressed confidence that the
Peruvian Paralympic athletes set to participate at
Paris 2024 will bring additional joy to the country.
"They are the sons and daughter of our nation, a clear example of solidarity, and a clear proof that united Peruvians can overcome anything. They are the best example of greatness. Their participation at the Olympics was supported by the (Peruvian) State, which allocated over S/4 million (above US$1.06 million) for athletes, but they also received support from their families," she noted.
Moreover, the president affirmed that the Government's commitment to the development of sports continues.
She added that the athletes who participated at Paris 2024 "are an example for future generations."
Later, outside the National Stadium, the ceremony to unveil the Sporting Laurels for Stefano Peschiera took place.
