The Presidency of the Republic on Tuesday saluted and recognized the work carried out by volunteer firefighters in Peru, for the sake of the population affected in case of emergency.

This greeting was issued by the Presidential Office on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), on the date that this anniversary is celebrated.

"Within the framework of Peruvian Volunteer Firefighters' Day, we salute and recognize the work of heroes in red (uniform), who sacrifice themselves every day for the well-being and safety of all Peruvians," the official post reads.

Peruvian Volunteer Firefighters' Day is celebrated on December 5, a date on which the 163rd anniversary of the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru is also observed.

The date established for Peruvian Firefighters' Day is related to the oldest station in Peru: the "Unión Chalaca Nº 1," located at the Port of Callao and founded on December 5, 1860.

The work of firefighters is linked to combating, controlling, and extinguishing fires; rescuing people exposed to danger, accidents, and incidents involving hazardous materials; among other emergency response actions.
