The Presidency of the Republic stressed the celebration of Creole Music Day, one of the biggest expressions of Peru's tradition, culture, and musical identity.

Moreover, the government agency urged Peruvians to pass on this tradition to future generations.

"Let's keep passing down our creole music from generation to generation!" it said in a post on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter).

As part of the celebrations, the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Monday awarded the title of Meritorious Cultural Figure to a series of Creole artists, including Manuel Donayre, Rosa Fayffer, Luis Neves, Carmen Petronila Robles Izquierdo, and Adriana "Bartola" Davila.

In addition, the same award was granted posthumously to Catalina Robles Izquierdo.

Creole Music Day

Creole Music Day is celebrated on October 31. It was established in 1944 during the government of Manuel Prado Ugarteche to pay tribute to the main musicians and performers in this musical genre, which is of such importance for the country.

In the first celebration of Creole Music Day, the Peruvian flag was hoisted at musical centers across the capital city Lima and the neighboring port city of Callao.

Later that night, a special ceremony was held at Buenos Aires Square in Lima's neighborhood of Barrios Altos. The event saw the participation of President Prado.
