The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) presented two projects focused on boosting the development and transformation of the tourism sector across the Asia-Pacific region.

The event took place during the 62nd APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting in the city of Seattle, United States.

The first project is titled "Study and workshop to generate digital tools for the transition towards formal economy of tourism companies in the Asia-Pacific region."

It aims to identify and evaluate the main digital tools available that can support the formalization of tourism sector businesses in APEC economies.

"This way, we seek to boost digitalization and favor the transition of informal economic actors to the formal sector, not only in Peru, but across the entire region. Thus, the economic development of all tour operators will be strengthened," said Ruth Garcia, Director of Tourism Facilitation and Culture at Mincetur.

On the other hand, the second project, titled "Impact of creative economies on the future of tourism in the APEC region," is characterized by examining the importance of creative economies to boost economic growth and job creation in the tourism sector —one of the goals also set by Mincetur to strengthen the sector's reactivation.

According to Tourist Offer Innovation Director, Karlo Garcia, both projects rely on the unanimous support from APEC economies.

Their development would require investments of close to US$125,000 and US$120,000, respectively, which would be financed by APEC.

Thus, the Peruvian government agency seeks to promote innovation, sustainability, and responsible growth in the tourism sector for the benefit of the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Peru will assume the APEC Presidency in 2024, within the framework of which the 63rd APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting and the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting, among others, will be held.
