Peru: PPC party's historic leader, Luis Bedoya, dies at 102

Founder and historic leader of Partido Popular Cristiano-PPC (Christian Popular Party), Luis Bedoya Reyes, died on Thursday at the age of 102.

Former PPC leader, Lourdes Flores, called on the party's activists to unite in prayer. 

"Glory to a great person, rest in peace," she expressed.

For his part, current PPC presidential candidate Alberto Beingolea confirmed Bedoya's death on social media, conveying his condolences to the family, PPC activists, and the country.

"He leaves the strength of a doctrine, the soundness of his ideas, and a tremendous example in his actions as legacy," he posted on Twitter.

Moreover, the Congress of the Republic observed a minute's silence for the death of Luis Bedoya, who was a member of the Constituent Assembly in 1978.

For her part, Peru's Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez expressed her sympathy on the death of Bedoya, whom she called a democrat.

"I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and to the party's activists," her tweet reads.
