Peru: Pope Francis approaches believers at Apostolic Nunciature

20:57 | Lima, Jan. 19.

Pope Francis on Friday evening returned to Lima-based Apostolic Nunciature, where he will rest after completing an intense day in Puerto Maldonado and Lima while visiting Peru.

Before entering the building, the Holy Father stepped out of his vehicle. Amid tight security, he walked several meters around to greet believers, who had been waiting for him since the early afternoon.

In this brief tour, Pope Francis gave his blessings to children, people with disabilities or illnesses, seniors, young enthusiasts, and anyone who tried to get closer to touch his hands.

Afterwards, he approached Virgen del Rosario (Our Lady of the Rosary) —patron saint of Pachacamac district's Manchay area— whose statue said community residents had brought to be blessed by the Supreme Pontiff.

Manchay comprises several human settlements formed by the domestic migration process seen in Peru a few decades ago. Its inhabitants —who mainly came from the Highlands— have found in Virgen del Rosario the patroness who represents them.

After entering the building, His Holiness stood on the balcony to thank all the faithful, especially those who had made the effort to come from Manchay.

Immediately, Francis recited the Hail Mary with believers before saying good night to them.
