The Peruvian National Police (PNP) received the first three UH-60 (Black Hawk) helicopters —out of a total of nine— donated by the Government of the United States of America, which will help strengthen the fight against drug trafficking in our country.
The modern aircraft arrived at the Decentralized Aviation Unit in Pucallpa, Ucayali region.
They were received by PNP General Commander Victor Zanabria, who emphasized that these units will strengthen police operational capacity.
In November 2024, the arrival of these helicopters was officially confirmed following the signing of a cooperation agreement between the governments of Peru and the United States, whose negotiations were unblocked six years after the talks had first begun.
Thanks to the arrival of the first Black Hawk helicopters, the National Police, through the Directorate of Police Aviation (Diravpol), will have at its disposal modern and versatile aircraft, featuring high maneuverability and adaptability to all types of terrain.
According to the agreement, the United States commits to support with maintenance, technical advice, a management information system (MIS), and training for the personnel who will operate the helicopters, as well as transferring support equipment.¿
Meanwhile, Peru will assign pilots, maintenance technicians, and administrative personnel permanently to the Decentralized Police Aviation Unit in Pucallpa to ensure the safe operation.
