Peru's Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos on Sunday announced that, in the next few days, the Government will issue a supreme decree on the economic activities included in Phase 3 of the reopening amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
"That includes air and ground transportation, but beware, the fact that productive economic activities are allowed to resume does not mean total freedom of movement, but that they are subject to strict health protocols," he explained.
When asked about the interpellation to State ministers, Zeballos emphasized that Cabinet members attend Congress almost on alternate days —in person or virtually— at the call of the Legislative Branch.
For this reason and considering that the health emergency demands the attention of all levels of government, he urged Parliament to join efforts and agree on public-political rules to fight the pandemic.
"I echo the words of Congress Chairman Manuel Merino, who expressed his surprise at this call. We are democratic and we understand what the Congress functions are," he said.
"We are democratic and show respect, but I think it is legitimate to respectfully call for further reflection while thinking about the country," he said.
