A light aircraft carrying 13 people crashed and burst into flames Saturday afternoon in an agricultural field in Nasca province, Ica region, leaving no survivors.
Firefighter Cesar Martinez confirmed that the aircraft was an Aerodiana Caravan that had departed from Pisco Airport.
He said the aircraft was carrying tourists from Germany (2), Spain (2), Italy (7), and 2 crew members, whose bodies were charred.
William Acosta, a representative of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC), said the area was cordoned off following the crash.
He added that investigators from Lima will arrive at the site to determine the cause of the crash.
In a statement, the Vista Alegre District Municipality expressed its condolences over the tragic crash of an Aerodiana light aircraft.
It also said the small aircraft had taken off from Pisco Airport with 13 people on board.
"The aircraft departed from Pisco Airport, not from Maria Reiche Neumann Airfield," the statement said.
