Starting today, November 15, people over 45 years of age using commercial transportation to travel between provinces by land must present proof of having received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to do so.
The announcement —made by
Health Minister Hernando Cevallos in October— was made official through Supreme Decree No. 167-2021-PCM published in El Peruano official gazette.
"From November 15, 2021, all passengers older than 45 years of age using commercial transportation to travel between provinces by land, at the four (4) alert levels, can climb on board only if they present proof of being fully vaccinated," the regulation states.
During the announcement of its publication, Minister Cevallos remarked that even though the vaccination is voluntary, no one has the right to infect others.
"If you travel between provinces by land —usually for several hours— the person next to you should be less likely to infect you," he said at a press conference after the Council of Ministers session.
COVID-19
Cevallos emphasized that unvaccinated people are more likely to infect those around them.
It should be pointed out that 16,584,374 have been administered two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of November 14 at 8:01 p.m. (local time). Thus, they are protected from dying or becoming severely ill with COVID-19.
According to the latest report issued by the
Ministry of Health (Minsa), 38,054,776 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been so far administered in Peru. This figure represents 59% of the target population.
