On Afro-Peruvian Culture Day, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) paid tribute to Nicomedes Santa Cruz Gamarra on the centenary of his birth.

"His legacy as a poet, journalist, decimas performer, cultural promoter, and radio host left a mark on Peruvian culture and our history," the PCM stated on social media.

To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Culture will carry out a series of cultural activities.

Among these activities, the production of music, decimas (composing or writing verses), zapateo (a traditional Afro-Peruvian footwork dance), cajon (traditional Afro-Peruvian percussion instrument), and Marinera (traditional Peruvian dance) stand out, aiming to promote the heritage and legacy of the renowned artist.

In doing so, the contributions and achievements of Afro-descendant citizens in the visual and performing arts, gastronomy, and literature will be highlighted as well.

The Ministry of Culture also joined the tribute to Nicomedes Santa Cruz, inviting citizens to explore his work and learn how he transformed Afro-Peruvian culture.
