Peru participated virtually in the 48th session of the Industrial Development Board (IDB) held in the Austrian city of Vienna between November 23 and 25.

The national delegation was led by Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations (Vienna), Ambassador Eric Anderson Machado, and made up of Director General of the Department of Environmental Affairs of Industry in the Ministry of Production, Vlademir Lozano.

The Permanent Representative in Vienna reiterated the support that the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has provided to the Government of Peru in order to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, while laying the foundations for the industrial reactivation and manufacturing sector in the country.

He explained that technical cooperation activities are mostly framed in the Programme for Country Partnership-Peru (PCP-Peru) and in the Socio-Economic Response and Recovery Plan prepared by the United Nations System, in coordination with the Peruvian State.

For his part, Lozano stressed the importance that the country attaches to PCP-Peru —the broadest and most important cooperation program between UNIDO and a few countries in the world to promote industrial and inclusive development. It must be pointed out that Peru is the only country in the region participating in said program.

He highlighted the valuable progress made in each of its components, the most noteworthy being the projects "Strengthening the coffee and cacao quality for exports from Peru," "Eco-industrial parks development in the Republic of Peru," and "Sustainable industrial zone development in Peru."

Finally, Lozano highlighted UNIDO's important policy advice for the design of a modern industrial policy and expressed special appreciation to the partners and allies who actively participate in PCP-Peru.

UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability.

It has 10 ongoing projects in Peru —within the framework of the Programme for Country Partnership-Peru (PCP-Peru)— amounting to around US$83 million.
