Peru: Families benefit from bioclimatic houses

18:53 | Lima, Jun. 25.

Peru's Housing, Construction, and Sanitation Ministry (MVCS) —through its National Rural Housing Program— built 186 rural houses worth S/136.597 million (about US$41.786 million) in nine Peruvian regions, as part of the Government's efforts to protect citizens from extremely low temperatures.

Recipients were citizens of Puno, Cusco, Apurimac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Ancash, Junin, Amazonas, and Ucayali regions.

It must be noted the MCVS built 5,061 rural homes —with special materials to retain heat— in Ancash, Cusco, and Puno between 2014 and 2017.

Multisectoral Plan

So far this year, the ministry has delivered a total of 1,125 rural houses, thus benefiting families residing in population centers included in the Government's 2018 Frost and Friaje (cold spell) Multisectoral Mitigation Plan.

Thanks to this program, 704 rural houses are currently being climatized in Amazonas, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Junin, and Ucayali.

Likewise, the construction of 510 rural homes in Cusco and Puno regions is about to begin.

This mitigation plan is part of the National Rural Housing program, which aims at enhancing the life quality of citizens hit by poverty and extreme poverty —especially those residing in isolated population centers.
